Grace

The primary thing that separates Christianity from all other belief systems is that Christianity is true. The greatest truth of Christianity is that God relates to man by grace. Grace means unmerited favor. Even a cursory view reveals that it could not be otherwise. After all, God is holy. We are not. No unholy thing can merit anything good from a holy Being. Mankind can only merit separation from God while receiving the wrath of God. That is hell. Thank God that He did not leave man in that situation. He provided His own Son to pay the full price for all deviation from His holiness. That is not only grace, but amazing grace. That is what God has made available to us. We are to avail ourselves of that which God has made available. We do this by faith in Jesus, the Son of God, and specifically in what He did for us on His Cross.

For the unbeliever, since you are not in hell now, then you are literally swimming in a sea of the grace of God. That grace allows a window of opportunity for you to avail yourself of God’s greatest grace, namely His Son. The fact that you are reading this is testimony that God is calling you to do just that. He wants you in His family. He wants to spend eternity with you to fulfill His love for you. You only have two choices: 1) His Son, or 2) depend on your own “perfection” before a holy God. I pray that you not die while placing your faith in the contradiction of “No one is perfect, but I am perfect enough for a perfect God.”

For the believer, do not think that you are through with grace the moment that you are saved. The entire Christian walk is dependent on the grace of God. That will become clearer as we go forward through this series. One aspect of the unmerited favor of God is the omnipotent power of God operating within you to His maximal glory and your maximal well-being. It begins with His grace, is walked out by His grace, and continues into eternity future by His grace. This is part of Jesus being the “Alpha and Omega.” Drink fully of it. Part of His grace is that His grace cannot ever be used up. We can drink too little but never too much.
